1. What is Rivotril 2mg?
Rivotril 2mg is a pharmaceutical product with Clonazepam as its main active ingredient at a concentration of 2mg, along with other excipients sufficient for one tablet.
The mechanism of action involves GABA-mediated inhibition at postsynaptic sites. Studies on animals and electroencephalograms in humans have demonstrated that Clonazepam in Rivotril reduces excessive brainwave activity in patients with epilepsy.
Clonazepam is quickly absorbed after taking it by mouth, with peak levels in the blood reached within 1–4 hoursly absorbed after taking it by mouth, and exhibiting bioavailability of up to 90%. Approximately 85% of the drug binds to plasma proteins, and it can cross the placenta and be excreted into breast milk.
2. What are the effects of Rivotril 2mg?
Rivotril 2mg is part of the benzodiazepine group, known for its calming effects, seizure control, anxiety relief, and muscle relaxation. It also helps restore the balance of neurotransmitters, making it effective in treating certain types of epilepsy, including Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, absence seizures, and panic or anxiety disorders in adults and children.
3. Instructions for using Rivotril 2mg
The medication is taken orally at any time of the day, regardless of food intake. The dosage depends on the condition being treated and the patient’s characteristics, as determined by a doctor. Recommended dosages are as follows:
3.1. Epilepsy
For adults:
- Initial dose: 1mg per day (reduced to 0.5mg for elderly patients), divided into three doses. Maximum initial dose is 1.5mg/day.
- Dosage may be increased by 0.5-1mg every three days until seizure control is achieved.
- Maintenance dose: 4-8mg/day, divided into three doses.
- Maximum allowable dose: 20mg/day.
